Guided to Care, Grounded in Hope

A patient called Hope after months of trying to “push through.” She had recently been laid off and lost her health coverage, and she wasn’t yet eligible for Medicare. For the past few years, she had been caring for elderly family members and putting everyone else first—until she couldn’t ignore her own symptoms any longer.

She was experiencing persistent shoulder pain and had discovered a lump in her breast. She was afraid to seek medical care because she sensed something serious was happening, and she didn’t know how she could afford answers.

When she reached out, Hope responded with both compassion and urgency. Sandy spoke with her on the phone and—after sensing the weight of what the patient was carrying—took time to listen, encourage her, and pray with her. That moment of connection helped the patient take the next step.

Hope then coordinated diagnostic testing and helped her navigate a pathway to specialty care through a breast cancer program. The results confirmed metastatic breast cancer. While the diagnosis was heartbreaking, the patient expressed deep gratitude that she didn’t have to face it alone. She was thankful for the medical support, the coordination across services, and the way Hope helped remove barriers at the moment she felt the most fear.

In the midst of it all, she also reconnected with a local church her family had been part of, finding spiritual encouragement and community support as she moved forward.

Because you gave, she didn’t just receive a diagnosis—she received guidance, compassion, and hope at the moment she needed it most.
