More Than Medicine

March is Social Work Month, and I did not want this month to pass without recognizing the incredible impact social workers make in our community every single day.

This month, I had the opportunity to meet with the incredible care management team from our healthcare partner at IU West. It was such a meaningful reminder of how important their work really is. These are the people who often step into difficult situations and help bring clarity, comfort, direction, and hope when people need it most.

At Hope, we see every day that healthcare is about so much more than treating a symptom or addressing a diagnosis. Many of the people we serve are carrying much more than a physical need. They may be dealing with financial stress, family struggles, emotional burdens, or simply the uncertainty of not knowing where to turn. In those moments, having someone who will listen, care, advocate, and help connect them to the right support can make all the difference.

That is why I have such a deep appreciation for care management teams and social workers. Their work is not always easy, and it is not always seen, but it matters more than most people realize. They help people navigate hard seasons. They stand in the gap for those who feel overwhelmed. They bring compassion into places that can feel heavy and uncertain. And in doing so, they make our whole community stronger.

My time with the team at IU West was a great reminder that we are surrounded by people who are doing this kind of work every day with excellence and heart. I am grateful for partners like them and for all those who serve others in ways that bring dignity, support, and encouragement.

This month, I simply want to say thank you. Thank you to the care management teams, social workers, and advocates who care deeply for people and walk with them through some of life’s hardest moments. Your work matters. Your compassion matters. And the difference you make is real.

We are grateful for all those who help us continue bringing hope, help, and healing to our community.

With gratitude,
Cliff Sweazey, Executive Director
